Tooth decay

Dr. Kumar is highly qualified and able to provide you with the care and information needed to prevent decay with a thorough examination of your teeth, diet and dental care routine.

For children who are at risk of tooth decay, he may recommend either fissure sealants or a topical fluoride application as a preventative measure.

Fissure sealants

Fissure sealants are a safe and painless way of protecting young, newly erupted adult teeth from dental decay. A sealant is a protective plastic coating, which is applied to the biting surfaces of the back teeth. They form a hard shield that prevents food and bacteria from lodging in the grooves of the teeth and causing decay.

Sealants can be applied as soon as the permanent molar teeth start to come through (usually between the ages of five and seven), with the rest of the teeth being sealed as they appear in the mouth during later years.

The process is usually quick and straightforward, taking only a few minutes per tooth.
